Md. Monirul Islam began his academic career as a faculty member at Khulna University in December 2018. He earned both his Master of Pharmacy (2017) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (2014) degrees from the same institution. He joined the renowned pharmaceutical company NIPRO JMI Pharma immediately after completing his undergraduate degree, where he served for one year. He subsequently returned to Khulna University to pursue his Master’s degree.
In March 2017, Mr. Monir was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at Bangladesh University in Dhaka, where he served until September 2018. Thereafter, he worked as a scientific officer at the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for two months (October–November 2018), before joining Khulna University.
Mr. Monir’s primary research interests include biomolecular target identification in disease pathology, drug discovery, and drug delivery systems. His laboratory focuses on isolating bioactive small molecules from medicinal plants to develop novel therapeutic interventions for critical and life-threatening diseases. Supported by the Khulna University Research and Innovation Center, he has investigated the antitumor activity of nivolumab-conjugated gold nanoparticles against HeLa cells. His research also emphasizes in silico drug design, for which he received a special grant from the ICT Division to establish molecular modeling facilities. In addition, his research has recently expanded to include the discovery of potential drug candidates for diabetes management.
His long-term objective is to advance cutting-edge research in pharmaceutical sciences by fostering robust academic knowledge and strengthening interdisciplinary research skills.
