Empowering Communities through Income-Generating Activities as a Form of Continuing Education: A Qualitative Study in Khulna

Income-generating initiatives have the potential to empower both individuals and communities,

current educational programs could not sufficiently give participants the core practical skills

needed for entrepreneurship or successful employment. Other literature offers a diverse range of

perspectives regarding the efficacy of continuing education but extensive study is needed to

explore the income-generating activities incorporated in continuing education programs as a form

of continuing education. In this research, i have been able to investigate how communities can be

empowered in terms of income generating activities as part of continuing education in Khulna.

Qualitative method was the nature of this study which has been carried out with 30 respondents

through purposive sampling which include income generating programs’ beneficiaries, program

facilitators and local policymakers. In-depth interviews, focus group discussions and document

review used as tools to collect data. Thematic analysis was use for data analysis. The outcome this

study demonstrated that diverse range of income generating activities like agricultural work,

handicrafts, tailoring, and small-scale business that not only equip learners with practical skills but

also foster financial independence, quality of life, self-confidence, decision making skills and

community engagement. Nonetheless, such barriers as insufficient funds, access to the market, and

poor training opportunities were found. This paper points out the opportunities as a transformative

device in a continuing education. This study also offering policy and programmatic

recommendations to strengthen the sustainability of income generating activities of continuing

education.
