Engaging Students in Community Development: A Step Towards Sustainable Khulna City

This project aims to enhance students' involvement in community work in the Khulna region, promoting their personal development, while also contributing to the sustainable development of the area. Community engagement has been identified as a key aspect of holistic education, equipping students with real-world experience, problem-solving abilities, and social responsibility (Astin et al., 2000). Student volunteerism can bridge gaps between formal education and societal challenges by creating opportunities for active learning and community improvement (Khan, 2021).

In Khulna, local communities struggle with issues such as environmental degradation, lack of access to quality education, healthcare challenges, and inadequate sanitation services (Ahmed & Khan, 2019). Students, as emerging leaders and change agents, can help address these concerns through carefully designed initiatives. This project seeks to develop a structured program where students can meaningfully engage in these areas, working alongside local NGOs, community leaders, and public authorities to generate sustainable impacts. The goal is to create a mutually beneficial framework where both students and communities thrive. In Khulna, local communities struggle with issues such as environmental degradation, lack of access to quality education, healthcare challenges, and inadequate sanitation services (Ahmed & Khan, 2019). The project aims to engage students from at least 5 schools, 3 colleges, and 2 universities, with a target of involving approximately 300 students, 20 mentors, and 10 trainers. These students will work alongside local NGOs, community leaders, and public authorities to generate sustainable impacts through structured initiatives.
