Factor Influencing Utilization of Antenatal Care Service among Pregnant Women: A Meta-Analytical View on Some Developing Countries

Antenatal care is the care that is received by pregnant women from healthcare professionals during pregnancy. Antenatal care (ANC) from a medically-trained provider is important to monitor the status of a pregnancy, identify the complications associated with the pregnancy, and prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes. To be most effective, there should be regular ANC throughout pregnancy. Information on ANC was assessed for women who gave birth in the three years preceding the survey. Among women with two or more live births during the three-year period, data refer to the most recent live birth only. Antenatal care is a key strategy for reducing maternal mortality, but millions of women in developing countries do not receive it appropriate antenatal care. It is important in identifying and mitigating risk factors in pregnancy. The utilization of antenatal care (ANC) remains very low in developing countries. In Bangladesh 78.52% of women takes ANC. We have also seen that mother’s education plays an important role in receiving ANC services. In Bangladesh the educated women are 4.811 times more likely to receive ANC than the illiterate women. Among 15 developing countries people of Nepal are very conscious about ANC. We should take step to increase the utilization of ANC because it can potentially reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. The study aims to assess how different factor influence the utilization of antenatal care service in some developing countries. The main independent variable is women’s education, religion, place of residence, household, wealth index, partners level of education, mothers age at first birth. The productivity of routine antenatal care in respect of prediction and detection of obstetric problems is extremely low, and it is suggested that the number of visits for this purpose could be considerably reduced for women without special problems. The study findings underscore the importance of women’s education on the utilization of ANC services; therefore, emphasis and priorities should be given more to address all the factors along with education contributing to the low utilization of ANC services in Bangladesh.
