Beyond Dropout: A Study on the Students of 15 Secondary Schools in Khulna City Corporation

Education is the fundamental right of human. Education plays the most important role in human life. But every year, a large number of students are being deprived of education. Dropout is the leading factor for this problem. The research, Beyond Dropout: A Study on the Students of 15 Secondary Schools in Khulna City Corporation, attempted to bring the reasons to light for which many of our students are being dropped out from school every year. This work has been conducted on the students who were enlisted in the dropout list of 2017 and 2018. There were total 54 students’ name in the dropout list of 15 schools. Survey method has been used to collect data. The survey was conducted on the students of 15 secondary schools of Khulna City Corporation. Data were collected by using questionnaire. Amongst the 54 students, it was possible to collect data of 52 students. And the rest two students were out of all kinds of communication. The schools were selected purposively. To analyze the collected data, SPSS software has been used. The mentionable reasons for dropout are Financial Crisis, Parental Negligence, Early Marriage, Addiction to Mobile Phone, Premature Affairs, Teachers’ Coaching Business etc. The study has found that some students were Unwilling to study as well. The study has also found that Bad Company has a great impact for dropout. Recommendations have been provided for both the Government and the Parents. If the recommendations are followed, it can be expected that the dropout rate can be minimized. Hopefully the research will put a significant contribution to the field of knowledge.
