Career Choice of Students: A Cross-Sectional Study on Mass Communication and Journalism Departments of Bangladesh

Job satisfaction is one of the most important thing which have impact over the work and overall things of a journalists. Satisfaction in workplace helps to do work properly and inspires the journalists to do much more acceptable work which is good for the news house. On the other hand, dissatisfaction in news house have some negative impacts. This research is all about to measure the level of job satisfaction of the local newspaper journalists of Khulna District. In that research, through a questionnaires based survey, the level of job satisfaction among the local newspaper journalists of Khulna District has been studied. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed among 11 local newspaper journalists of Khulna District through random selection process and among them 70 of them responded and they are used for the analysis of this research. From the analysis it is found that 54.3% of them have come to this profession by considering journalism as a prestigious occupation. Moreover, the research demonstrates that majority of the respondents are not satisfied with their current salaries which is only about one to ten thousand taka in a month though there is a positive thing that most of the journalists receive salaries in time and majority of the houses give rewords for good work. The research reveals that the maximum local newspaper houses don't follow the wage board perfectly. The study also highlights that the majority of the journalists don’t think that the local newspaper journalists have job security in Bangladesh.
