Dr. Md. Azharul Islam, currently a professor in the Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline at Khulna University, boasts an extensive academic journey. He attained his PhD from the University of Ioannina, Greece, in 2009, followed by his initial post-doctoral research in Chemical Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Subsequently, he pursued further postdoctoral studies at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Dr. Azharul earned both his B.Sc. and MS degrees in Forestry from Khulna University. His academic voyage began as a cadet of Pabna Cadet College. Throughout his illustrious career, he has spearheaded various research projects funded by esteemed institutions such as TWAS (World Academy of Science), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, UGC, and Khulna University research cell. His scholarly contributions extend to over 70 peer-reviewed articles published in esteemed international journals, in addition to numerous conference papers. Dr. Azharul's research endeavors primarily focus on the thermochemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass for energy and environmental applications. From June 6th, 2021, to October 29th, 2023, he held the position of Executive Editor at Khulna University Studies, a flagship journal of Khulna University. He served as the director of the Institute for Integrated Studies on the Sundarbans and Coastal Ecosystems (IISSCE) from October 30, 2023, to August 8, 2024.
