Conventional Practice of Bamboo and Cane Art in Khulna

Bamboo and cane art is one of the artisanal crafts of Bangladesh. This is an ancient artisanal craft. This is not only a craft but a part of the history, nature and tradition of the villages of Bangladesh. The bamboo and art industry has flooded the people of the world for hundreds of years. The main materials for bamboo and cane art are bamboo and cane plants. For natural reasons, the ideal materials for bamboo and cane can art be found all over Bangladesh. But now, in Khulna district, the production of bamboo and cane art is really low. This is due to the construction of houses by cutting down bamboo and cane bushes. The reason for low production is salt water in the southern part of Khuina. There are a lot of uses for bamboo and cane art, from making houses to making agricultural tools, tools for farming fishes and traps for catching fishes, furniture, things that people need every day, fancy objects to decorate households etc. Once upon a time, bamboo and cane were found aplenty in all the districts of Bangladesh including Khulna. But with the passage of time, people started using plastic, iron, partex, silver, melamine products more and that is why this bamboo and cane art are now on the verge of extinction.
