Dr. Rameswar Debnath is working as a professor in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Discipline of Khulna University, Bangladesh. He received his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from Khulna University of Bangladesh in 1997 and obtained first merit position in his class. He completed his master of engineering degree in communication and systems and Ph.D. degree under the Japanese Government scholarship from the University of Electro-Communications situated in Tokyo in 2002 and 2005, respectively. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher under JSPS fellowship in the Department of Informatics of The University of Electro-Communications and Neuroscience Research Inst., National Inst. of Adv. Industrial Science and Technology, Tsukuba during the period 2008-2010. He was the organizing chair of 16th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) in 2014. He also organized several workshops and seminars. He served as a head of the CSE Discipline of Khulna University during the period 2012-2015. He was the director of Post Graduate Diploma in Information and Technology (PGDIT) under CSE discipline during the period 2012-2015. He was the chairman of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS), Khulna branch, divisional coordinator and educational activity coordinator of IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter, vice president of Bangladesh Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Association ( BBCBA ) and secretary general of Khulna University bdSTEM Foundation. He published more than 70 journals, book chapters, and peer-reviewed conference papers. He presented papers in many conferences in home and abroad. His research interests include image data analysis, deep learning, bioinformatics, support vector machine, artificial neural network, statistical pattern recognition, natural language processing and medical image processing, etc.
- Ph.D, The University of Electro-Communications (UEC),Tokyo, Japan, 2005
- M.Engg.,The University of Electro-Communications (UEC), Tokyo, Japan, 2002
- B.Sc.Engg. in CSE, Khulna University, Bangladesh, 1997
My research interests are statistical machine learning (in particular supervised learning; support vector machines and kernel methods; deep learning), and its applications to pattern recognition, image processing, bioinformatics and natural language analysis. Major studies include improving the performances of support vector machines (SVMs) such as a fast learning method for low-rank kernel (applying second-order cone programming technique and its fast implementation), fast and effective learning method for large-scale multiclass support vector machine, investigating the best kernel for practical use, a method of tuning the parameter of Gaussian kernel. An efficient evolutionary model has been developed for gene selection and classification for microarray data based on SVM-based criteria. I also conduct research on detection and recognition of objects from incomplete representation. Currently I am working to develop unbiased deep learning models for imbalanced feature distribution problems.
