Khulna University is one of the leading public universities in Bangladesh with about seven thousand students, more than five hundred teachers and about six hundred officers and employees. Most of the members of this eight thousand people family use the University provided transport vehicles for their daily conveyance. Sometimes, the passengers face difficulties or may have to wait a very long time if the buses are late for some other reason like traffic jam, mechanical fault etc. Also, there is no way to figure out whether the bus is still available in case somebody misses the schedule. Besides these, there is the recent news report on some national level news portal on a Khulna University bus driver regarding his suspected unethical practice of fuel expense. This proposal of Smart Vehicle Monitoring and Tracking System is proposed to solve these problems and provide a smart solution for the university management and other stakeholders for ensuring the best use of the available resources. This project will develop a hardware device model using a GPS sensor and an ultrasonic/fuel level sensor. The GPS sensor data will inform the vehicle location and speed and the ultrasonic/fuel level sensor will use a sonar technology like a bat to determine the empty space in a fuel tank to measure the current volume of fuel. With the help of that device a smart vehicle tracking and monitoring system will be developed that would help students and other stakeholders to use Khulna University transportation system in a more efficient way. Another web based interface will be developed to inform the current fuel level with historical data to identify any misuse of vehicle fuel as well as the running cost of particular vehicle based on fuel consumption.
N.B. This project is fully funded by Khulna University Research Grants Program.
