Dr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman is a Professor of Pharmacy Discipline of Life Science School at Khulna University where he has
been working as a faculty member since 2000. He served the Discipline as the Head of Pharmacy
Discipline from March 23 2015 to March 22 2018. He received his B. Pharm. (Hon’s) & M. Pharm. degrees in Pharmacy from the
University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Right after completion of his study he started
his career as Product Executive in a renowned Pharmaceutical Industry in
Bangladesh. After acquiring professional experience from pharmaceutical
industry Dr. Rahman joined Pharmacy Discipline of Khulna University as a
faculty member.
He
earned PhD degree in Medical Science from the University of Tokushima, Japan in
2009 with prestigious Monbukagakusho scholarship. His doctoral research
entitled ‘Frequent overexpression of
HMGA1 and 2 in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours and its
relationship to let-7 downregulation’ was published in the British
Journal of Cancer. He
was also awarded Tokyo Biochemical Research Foundation (TBRF) fellowship to
conduct two-year postdoctoral research in the Department of Cell Biology,
Research Institute for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University, Japan. Dr. Rahman
then came back to Bangladesh and joined Khulna University to serve the country.
His research area was micro RNA mediated deregulation of oncogenes in cancer. His current research interests lie in the
area of Molecular genetics of cancer with special focus on genetic polymorphism
and cancer susceptibility. Recently he has published his work entitled
‘Genetic polymorphisms in CDH1 and Exo1 genes
elevate the prostate cancer risk in Bangladeshi population’ in Breast Cancer. He received a grant from
the Ministry of Science, Information and Technology, Bangladesh in 2015. Dr. Rahman lives with his partner, a Dental
Surgeon, and two school going kids. Dr. Rahman is member of a number of
professional organizations including, Bangladesh Society for Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology (BSBMBB), Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society, American
Association of Cancer Research (AACR), Asian federation of Biotechnology (AFOB),
Japanese Society for Molecular Biology, The Professional Society for Health
Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) etc. Very recently he attended the AACR Annual Meeting 2019 Atlanta in the USA held on March 27- April 3 and presented his research findings.
