INFLUENCE OF NITROGEN AND POTASSIUM ON NUTRIENT UPTAKE BY MUNG BEAN (Vigna radiata L.) IN A SALINE SOIL

The present study investigated the effects of varying levels of nitrogen and potassium on nutrient uptake by mungbean in saline soil and the corresponding changes in soil nutrient status. The results demonstrated that increasing the application rates of nitrogen and potassium significantly enhanced the nutrient uptake by mungbean, indicating a positive correlation between nutrient availability and plant absorption efficiency. Furthermore, higher levels of nitrogen and potassium also improved the nutrient status of the soil, suggesting that appropriate nutrient management practices not only benefit crop productivity but also contribute to maintaining soil fertility. These findings underscore the importance of optimizing nitrogen and potassium applications to achieve sustainable agricultural practices for mungbean cultivation. Since, mungbean is a moderately salt tolerant plant it can be grown in saline soil and application of nitrogen and potassium may increase the nutrient uptake by plant.
