Lower
phosphate mobility and plant P absorption cause the creation of depletion zones
around roots and restrict its further uptake. AMF hyphae growing outside roots may allow
plants to access phosphate further away from the root surface. However, it is not well understood how the combination of P
fertilizer and AMF affects plant growth, yield, and nutrient uptake. To
investigate this, a study was conducted on sesame plants. Combinedly, five
levels of P (TSP: 0, 8, 16, 24 and 32 kg P ha-1) and with or without
AMF were applied to sesame (BARI Til-4). The results showed that the
combination of P and AMF fertilizer significantly improved sesame growth,
yield, and nutrient uptake. There was also a strong positive correlation
between the P×AMF combination and other essential nutrients, such as nitrogen
(N), potassium (K), sulfur (S), and iron (Fe). This suggests that the
interactive effects of P×AMF fertilization increased nutrient uptake. The treatment
T9: 32 kg P ha-1 with AMF was identified as the optimum level for
sesame growth and nutrient uptake. This treatment increased grain yield by
107%, straw yield by 196.55%, over the control. Overall, the study concluded
that the 32 kg P ha-1 with AMF is an effective way to improve sesame
growth, yield and nutrient uptake.
