SPATIAL VARIABILITY AND GEOSTATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF SOIL AND WATER PROPERTIES IN THE BURIGOALINI RANGE OF THE SUNDARBANS BY USING GIS

The problem of human activities and natural hazardous with economic and environmental potential the Sundarbans of Bangladesh is going to deteriorate. One of the solutions to this problem will be based on the regular monitoring of limited physical and chemical properties of soil and water of the Sundarbans mangrove of Bangladesh. The quantity of soil and water nutrients present in mangrove forest soils and water has long been recognized as an essential indicator of a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. Soil and water parameter varied considerably throughout the study area and their coefficient of variation ranged from 12% to 79% demonstrating substantial variability within the datasets. Spherical semivariograms were developed and a strong to moderate spatial dependence was observed for maximum selected parameters. Correlation analysis revealed that strongly to moderately (P<0.01, P<0.05) positive and negative correlations among the all selected soil and water parameters. From the foregoing discussion, it can be inferred that geostatistics and GIS techniques are a useful tool for characterizing soil spatial variability in a large area with suitable statistical precision for planning suitable agricultural strategies, potentially solving the issue of our country's limited agricultural land.
