The Experiment was conducted to reveal the differences S sorption capacities between two soil series by comparing their best suitability and effects of acetate ion on sulphate sorption. In comparing between two series, Gangachara series provided greater sorption than Sara and sorption was gradually increased with increasing S concentrations. Soil properties like clay content, organic matter, pH, CEC and time significantly influenced sulphate sorption of soils and were strongly correlated with minimum sulphate sorption capacity. In this experiment, application of acetate ion before two hours prior to sulphate showed decreased sorption of sulfate at almost all concentrations of sulfur application than when sulfur solution was added to the soil alone and simultaneous application of sulphate and acetate. Freundlich isotherm provided better fitting for the two series. Comparing three equations it may be concluded that the Freundlich and Langmuir equations provided a better fitting to the data of two soil series than Temkin. So, Freundlich equation can be recommended because this model is more preferable as it is based on realistic assumptions than others. More sulphur fertilization is needed in Gangachara soil than Sara in order to ensure optimum plant growth and yield. In these soils with sulphur sorption capacities and strong S binding energy, less soluble sulphur source should be added to soils that release smaller concentrations of sulphate to soil solution, in order to increase nutrient use efficiencies in both crop and livestock production systems, to maintain S fertilizer in plant available form for a long period. As a result, crops will be able to use sulfur more effectively, which will ultimately lead to more food being produced in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
