Interference of Emojis in the Language of Social Media: A Case Study of University Students of Khulna City

Social Networking Sites are an inseparable part of today’s modern life. These hold a special power over every user and can influence the learning of the users. Excessive use of emojis and emoticons on Social Networking Sites can cause the decay of the language of social media and the distortion of meaning of words on Social media. This study was a quantitative research and it explored how the emojis is interfering in the language of social media. A questionnaire was distributed among the students of Khulna city to gather primary data using purposive sampling method. The total number of students was 45. And some data were collected from analyzing some screenshots from the posts of different public social media sites such as facebook. The integrity of the person is safe as only public informations were used for the research. The findings showed that students are using emojis are certainly has the interference and impacts. There were some limitations of this study as it could not involve all the students who use Social Networking Sites.
