Application of GenAI tools at Tertiary Level Education in Bangladesh: Prospects and Problems

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various sectors is accelerating globally and it enhances human productivity and efficiency which is evident. In the developed countries, AI, particularly Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has already been widely adopted in different domains, including education, where it is reshaping teaching and learning practice(Zawacki-Richter et al., 2019a). However, in the developing countries such as Bangladesh face significant implementation gaps and the education sector is currently navigating a critical transitional phase.   

As Bangladesh aspires to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SGD4- Quality education for all), the integration of emerging technologies like GenAI into tertiary level education becomes both timely and necessary. GenAI tools offer myriad potential and opportunities to personalize learning, and support academic research and writing. However, in the process of technological transformation, there are a set of significant challenges with immense opportunities. 

This study aims at comprehensively exploring the current statues of the usage of AI/GenAI integration in the tertiary level of education, and identify key implementation barriers and opportunities in the Bangladeshi context. Moreover, this research will try to establish future strategic directions and policy driven recommendations to guide its sustainable and equitable adoption.
