Enhancing English Language Proficiency for the Professionals at Freelancing Industry in Khulna District: Challenges and Solutions

The project titled "Enhancing English Language Proficiency for the Professionals at Freelancing Industry in Khulna District: Challenges and Solutions" is an ongoing project under Khulna University Research and inovation Centre. It is related to enhance the language proficiency of the freelaunchers in Khulna City. The number of people choosing freelance jobs in Khulna District has been rising quickly because of the flexibility, accessibility, and potentiality for earning foreign exchange that freelance work offers. However, one of the key challenges limiting the success of freelancers is the language barrier (Marinova, 2012). Today English is used in freelancing not only as a language but also as a tool or stair to move forward. Success in freelancing is determined by the competency and spontaneous use of four skills.

English, the primary language of communication in freelancing platforms, often becomes a major difficulty for those who lack sufficient proficiency. Freelancers face challenges such as inadequate resources for learning English, limited access to structured language programs, and a lack of practical training in professional communication (Rahman & Akter, 2022). In many cases, their English language skills are not developed in a manner that meets the specific needs of the freelancing market (Ahmed & Sultana, 2020). These limitations hinder freelancers to secure and complete high-paying assignments, which ultimately affect their long-term career development.

This study aims at identifying the main challenges and proposing practical solutions to help them overcome these barriers.
