Green Synthesis of AgNPs using Pectin as a safe Reducing and Capping Agent

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was usually conducted by using various plant sources and microorganisms. By using plant sources and microorganisms, it was difficult to find out the specific biomolecule which works as a reducing agent and capping agent. To overcome this problem Pectin, a commonly known polysaccharide, can be an effective alternative. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was conducted using the solution of Pectin. This study reports the development of an eco-friendly and cost-effective synthesis of AgNPs. The synthesis was carried out at different reaction conditions, i.e., reaction temperature, concentrations of the pectin solution, reaction time, and pH to obtain an optimum reaction condition. The synthesized AgNPs were characterized by visual observation, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).  The characterization results revealed that AgNPs were uniformly dispersed and exhibited a moderate size distribution. They were almost spherical crystals with an average size of 45 nm.
