Socio-economiv condition of the Labor in Jute Manufacturing Industry in Khulna City of Bangladesh

The study was conducted at Aila affected area of Gabura Union of Shyamnager Upazilla in Satkhira district. The main objective of the study was to identify the impact of Aila on affected people and their coping strategies. To conduct the study survey method was used and 120 samples were randomly selected from the study area. The study found that though it was two years passed since the Cyclone Aila had occurred but no important adaptation strategy has yet taken by the government. The people mainly have taken traditional adaptation strategies to cope with the far-reaching effect of Cyclone Aila on social and economic spheres of their lives. The people have taken shelter on the embankment as a strategy to overcome the housing crisis. To improve their economic status the people have changed their previous occupations and it was found that most of the people have become day labour. Large number of have migrated from their previous living places. Overwhelmingly large numbers of people have reduced the number of meal taking per day The people also have to starve due to the lack of food. The infrastructural development was not also taken up to the mark. So the study recommends that urgent suitable adaptation strategies should be taken to lessen the present and future sufferings.
