The Role of E-commerce on Women empowerment in Khulna City

Women entrepreneurs are massively oriented into new sectors of economy and are acknowledged to be successfully attainting their desired objectives. The inclusion of women in different entrepreneurial practices and actions especially in e-commerce has enlarged their empowerment and assurance level and motivates them to discover various arenas too. Now-a days, thousands of women entrepreneurs are presenting utmost enactments in Bangladesh's socio-economic areas with the huge development of women entrepreneurs in e-commerce segment. This work attempted to identify the role of e-commerce on women empowerment in Khulna city. To find out the study survey research design was adopted using quantitative approach of research. Non-probability sampling was applied to conduct the study. Here, the samples of this paper comprised of 140 e-commerce business women from whom data were collected using semi-structured questionnaire through deploying interviewing method as a techniques of data collection. Outcomes revealed that e-commerce has a great contribution in empowering women at personal level, for relational and environmental level there existed a very little role of e-commerce. Though the percentage of high level of empowerment was very low for relational and environmental level, this can't be ignored due to the fact that e-commerce is in a preliminary stage in empowering women. Moreover, most of the women had completed higher education and they were mostly adult. The study also found that age, year of schooling. monthly individual income, head of the family, monthly individual contribution to the family income have a significant association with the contribution of e-commerce in women enablement. And age, monthly individual contribution to the family income, and place of residence are the main factors contributed to the role of e-commerce on women empowerment. From the outcomes of this study policy makers can make appropriate decisions regarding e- commerce business women.
