Sarecity of Drinking water and its consequences: a Study in South-Western region of Bangladesh

This study on Scarcity of Drinking Water and Its Consequences in South-Western Region of Bangladesh is explanatory in nature has tried to examine the causes, alternative measure taken by the community and consequences in South-Western Region of Bangladesh and help them to draw the attention of the authority. This study was conducted through survey method by using simple random sampling where sample size was 110 and data were collected from the inhabitants of 7 number wards of the village of Brokupot of Shyamnagor Thana in Satkhira district by using an interview schedule. The study found that the scarcity of pure drinking water became acute after the flood aila for three or four years. Salinity (40.9 percent) and flood (36.4 percent) is responsible for their acute scarcity of pure drinking water. The study also found those 78.2 percent respondents were married. In this area, it was found that 64.5 percent of the people had no tube-well and 100.0 percent of the respondent recognizes of no availability of drinking water. They always drink water directly from the pond and a vast part 91.8 percent doesn't use water purification tablet for its bad smell and sharp taste. Findings also shows that people of this area also suffer from different waterborne diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery etc. and they have no awareness about health and sanitation and they get little support from the Government. Last of all some recommendations were made by the people for removing the scarcity of pure drinking water by setting up deep tube-well, tank, rain house and establishment filter in the pond etc.
