Role of Father in Upbringing the Children: A Study in Khulna City Corporation

While society frequently portrays a father as the primary breadwinner and the mother as the sole caregiver for the children, a child’s entire development requires both father and mother to play a role. While mothers are typically the ones who are in control of the child’s upbringing since they are more loving, the purpose of this study was to look into the role of fathers in the upbringing of children in single and dual-income homes from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Even though the study’s sample size is limited, it provides valuable insight into the role of fathers. Our societies are relatively traditional, the majority of the respondents rated the role of dads and their relationships with them as conventional. They are not portraying the position of a father who is more involved as a responsible father, aside from the usual breadwinner role. A responsible parent plays a social, recreational, and economic role in his children’s lives. However, there is a dearth of these among them due to a lack of time. Some men emerge as responsible fathers, yet they face a patriarchal society’s threat. Fathers in both dual-income and single-income families play the same role. For the upbringing of their children, they rely on their wives.
