Examining Supply Chain Viability via Agility, Resilience, and Sustainability in the Shrimp Sector

Purpose: This study explores the interaction between supply chain agility, resilience, sustainability, and systemic inhibitors for the Bangladeshi shrimp supply chain. In developing economies where systemic challenges frequently get in the way of operational efficiencies, the research tackles the critical need for adaptive and sustainable supply chains. This study centres on the integration of supply chain agility, resilience, and sustainability as key to long term supply chain viability.

Methodology: A quantitative approach combining surveys and 413 respondents from key stakeholders within the shrimp supply chain and analysis using structural equation modelling (SEM) was used. The study further contextualized findings within Dynamic Capabilities theory, Resource-Based View and Institutional theory frameworks. 

Findings: The findings show that agility positively influences supply chain viability but resilience and sustainability have statistically insignificant direct effects. However, the relationship between sustainability and viability is significantly moderated by systemic inhibitors thus suggesting a paradoxical role in encouraging compliance with environmental standards. The findings provide support for the importance of resolving systemic issues in order to realize supply chain dimensions. 

Research Limitations: Bangladesh shrimp industry is focused given this study and hence limit the generalizability. Structured survey data collection can be biased, and a cross-sectional design limit one's ability to understand evolving dynamics. There is potential future research in the realms of longitudinal impacts and technological innovations in and across different contexts.

Originality: By combining multiple supply chain dimensions into a unified framework and demonstrating the paradoxical role of systemic inhibitors, this research makes an important contribution to the literature. The results will help policymakers and industry stakeholders enhance supply chain resilience and sustainability.
