Distribution, Contamination and Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Street Dust of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), Bangladesh

Now heavy metal pollution of street dust has become a main environmental issue in many nations, including Bangladesh. Metals present in street dusts may create ecological and human health threats and their analysis is of great environmental relevance. In this manner, heavy metal contamination in urban street dust in Bangladesh gets serious with the rapidly urbanization and industrialization during the most recent twenty years (Rahman et at, 2019). Pointed out that the contamination of heavy metals predicts the human health as well as disintegrates the surface water, groundwater, and nature of air. The excessive intake of heavy metals lead to infections identified with kidney, blood, cardiovascular, and bone illness.

For instance, chronic exposure to Pb and As can prompt antagonistic impacts like damage the nervous, immune system, kidney failure, dermal infection, skin cancer and hypertension (Adimalla and Wang 2018). Chromium (Cr) compounds are respiratory tract aggravations and can cause aspiratory refinement. Chronic inhalation of Cr(VI) intensifies expands the danger of lung, nasal, and sinus malignant growth. Serious dermatitis and normally easy skin ulcers can result from contact with Cr(VI) compounds. Manganese (Mn) is one of the most abundant metals in soils, where it occurs as oxides and hydroxides, and it cycles through its various oxidation state. Manganese is an essential element for human health shortages of manganese can also cause health effects like fatness, blood clotting, skeleton disorder, birth defects, neurological symptoms. Nickel (Ni) is a hard, ductile, silvery-white transition metal. The effects of Ni are headaches, gastrointestinal manifestations, respiratory manifestation, lung fibrosis, cardiovascular diseases, lung cancer, nasal cancer, epigenetic effects (Genchi G et al, 2020).

Narayanganj city corporation (NCC) is one of the district in Bangladesh, is encountering fast urbanization and industrialization. However, assessment of heavy metal contamination in dust and its health hazard appraisal have not been embraced in this study area. This implies an information gap for understanding the likely impacts of dusts heavy metals on human health. Along these lines, the study will help to manage heavy metal defilement in soil and its conceivable human health hazard in the study area (Adimalla and Wang 2018)

In Bangladesh, Narayanganj city corporation (NCC) is the valuable industrial area and their road are very busy to transport material (Rahman et at, 2019). So these roads contain huge amount of heavy metals. But unfortunately there is no studies associated with the health risk assessment for the toxic metals in urban street dust samples in the Narayanganj city corporation (NCC) of Bangladesh, especially in the smelting district have not been carried out during the past decades. However, it is an important and time demanding study for the Narayanganj city corporation (NCC) of Bangladesh Hence, the findings are exceptionally valuable for providing pollution prevention measures in street dust as well as reducing human health risk in the study area.
