Water is an essential component for survival of humans and aquatic life. Humans need water in countless daily activities like drinking, washing, bathing, cooking etc. Everyday many patients go to Hospital, Clinic and Diagnostic Center for healthcare. Waterborne disease is a major concern of public health and it is important to know the microbial as well as the physico-chemical qualities of drinking water. Contamination of drinking water can pose a serious threat to patient health, particularly for those patients who are immunocompromised. Hence, the physico-chemical parameter, microbial contamination and heavy metal investigation are very important to get exact impression.
But still now, there is no literature exist that explored the drinking water quality, characterization and associated health risks assessment in different healthcare centre in and around KCC. Giving priority to patient’s health, this study will be conducted to assess the quality of drinking water supplied in Hospital, Clinic and Diagnosis Center. A total 150 water samples (50 samples in every three months) will be collected from 50 sample sites in nine months. Standard methods will be followed throughout the study period for the collection of the samples and analysis of major physicochemical parameters (e.g., Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3−, Cl−, NO3−, SO42−, PO43−, SiO2, pH, EC, TDS, DO, Salinity, hardness, total alkalinity and total acidity) and also microbial parameters (e.g., TC, FC, and E. Coli) with heavy metals (e.g., Cr, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, and Ni) if need. Although few studies have been completed in and around KCC, no study involve a complete characterization and suitability assessment of drinking water in Hospital, Clinic and Diagnostic Center. Hence, this study could be a very realistic study to assess the quality of drinking water through hydro-chemical investigation and water quality indexing emphasizes on water consumption status and suitability assessment.
Goals:
To investigate the concentration of physico-chemical parameters with microbial and heavy metals contamination in drinking water collected from different Hospitals, Clinics and Diagnostic Centers.
To characterize the hydrochemistry of drinking water.
To evaluate the quality and suitability of water samples through hydro-chemical examination and Water Quality Index (WQI).
