Heavy metals (HM) and microplastics (MP) are persistent contaminants that are regularly being accumulated in the Gangetic floodplain soils due to rapid industrial and agricultural activities.Floodplain soils serve as temporary sinks for heavy metals and microplastics. Harsh weather event i.e. floods reported to have impact on the storage, mobilization and redistribution of the HMs and MPs. Different studies reported to find HMs and MPs on the sediment of coastal river of Bangladesh which leads to the idea that they might be present on the floodplain of KoyraUpazila since it is affected by frequent cyclones, tidal surges and coastal flooding. Therefore, the study will focus on the determination of the MPsand HMs in the floodplain soil of KoyraUpzila and their transfer rate to the vegetation growing on it. The primary objective of the proposed study
is to determine the nutrients in the floodplain soil and their uptake efficiency in plant, then HMs content in soil and their transfer rate to the plant growing on it. Next to assess the microplastics contents in the soil and theirinteraction with the nutrition uptake efficiency. Therefore, the outcome of this proposed study would be beneficial to protect floodplain soil from environmental pollution and can serve policy makers in developing regulations on usage of microplastics and heavy metals.
