PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CONDITIONS OF JHAPA BAOR, JASHORE, BANGLADESH, BSc. Thesis (Degree Awarded)

ABSTRACT

The physico-chemical conditions of Jhapa Baor, Jashore, Bangladesh, have been studied from February 2024 to October 2024. The goal of this study was to find out the physico-chemical conditions of the Jhapa Baor and to compare these with the water quality standard. The irrigation water quality study of Jhapa Baor was another goal. To complete this study, fifteen sampling spots were selected, and fourteen parameters were analyzed in two seasons. The minimum and maximum value of several major parameters such as pH, EC, TDS, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO -, Cl-, NO -, PO4-, SO42-are 6.37-8.87, 3250-4410 μS/cm, 1630-2220 mg/l, 229.164- 398.220 mg/l, 94.826-110.826 mg/l, 122.244-210.42 mg/l, 6.076-35.242 mg/l, 320.25-716.75 mg/l, 216.245-237.515 mg/l, 22.089-30.907 mg/l, 2.182-3.341 mg/l, 329.161-452.766 mg/l respectively in winter and 7.22-8.33, 1376-2150 μS/cm, 770-1060 mg/l, 170.346-226.122 mg/l, 43.548-51.62 mg/l, 30.6-48.96 mg/l, 4.861-25.520 mg/l, 350.75-518.5 mg/l, 106.35-163.07 mg/l, 2.208-3.091 mg/l, 0.182-0.764 mg/l, 34.068-71.307 mg/l in monsoon. In this study, the DO recorded 10.3-15.1 mg/l respectively in winter and 4.2-7.1 mg/l respectively in monsoon. Some parameters like temperature, pH meet the Bangladesh water quality standard while the other parameters did not. Most of the parameters exceed irrigation water quality standards. So, the water of Jhapa Baor is not suitable for irrigation and drinking purposes.
