Dr. S. M. Abdullah Al Mamun
Professor

Dr. Mamun specializes in rice improvement through mutation and molecular approach breeding. With a strong background in plant genetics and breeding techniques, he is committed to enhancing rice cultivars to address global food security challenges and improve agricultural sustainability. His doctoral research focused on the development of rice mutants using mutagenesis techniques and their subsequent evaluation using molecular markers and quantitative trait analysis. Dr. Mamun has extensive experience in employing molecular markers, including SSRs (Simple Sequence Repeats) and SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms), to analyze and assess the genetic diversity within the rice mutant populations. By utilizing advanced genomic tools and marker-assisted selection, he aims to accelerate the breeding process by identifying and selecting promising mutant lines with desirable traits. Beyond his research activities, Dr. Mamun is an advocate for sustainable agriculture and the responsible use of genetic technologies. He actively engages with farmers, agricultural communities, and policymakers to raise awareness about the importance of crop improvement, emphasizing the benefits of mutation breeding and molecular approaches in rice breeding programs.
