Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction at Community Level: A Case Study on Southwestern Region of Bangladesh

This dissertation explores different aspects and extents of gender included and implemented in reducing disaster risks at the local level. The major focus of this dissertation is to identify gender gaps in vulnerability, adaptation and disaster risk management strategies taken by the local organizations. It also assesses the extent of gender inclusion according to their needs and roles in different existing legal frameworks of the country that are followed for disaster risk reduction. Further, it analyses how different initiatives taken by the local organizations have been influenced the local people to mainstream gender responsiveness in different aspects and phases of DRR. By following an inductive and case study-based approach through qualitative analysis this dissertation presents empirical evidence from the local community of Southwestern region on gender dimensions of DRR in their different institutional and behavioural practices.
