Multi-hazard Risk Assessment and Mapping Using Remote Sensing and GIS in South-western Coastal Bangladesh

The project is expected to apply a multi-criteria analysis for the assessment of natural hazards risk that integrates hazards, exposure and vulnerability using geospatial techniques and will quantify the degree of risk for the south-western coastal region of Bangladesh. The primary aim will be to assimilate the art of multi-risk approaches and methods to develop a robust multi-risk model based on solid scientific support. Emphasis will be given to comprehend the spatially varying exposure and socio-economic aspects of vulnerability that in together fabricate spatial diversity in risk portfolio. The results of this research can be used by the concerned authorities to develop and apply effective disaster impact mitigation plans and strategies. Additionally, it will also develop geospatial participatory 3-D modelling of community-based resilience or risk management adaptation plans for two Upazilas. Participatory research methods are increasingly used to collectively understand complex social-environmental problems and to design solutions through diverse and inclusive stakeholders’ engagement.
