Identification of Green and Blue Spaces: An Assessment of the Feasibility of Sponginess of Cumilla and Sylhet City Corporation under Sustainable Water Cycle Project

The SNV-funded study, "Identification of Green and Blue Spaces: Assessing the Feasibility of Sponginess in Cumilla and Sylhet City Corporations," serves as a strategic technical assessment for implementing "Sponge City" concepts within the Sustainable Urban Water Cycle Project. By utilizing advanced GIS spatial analysis and site-specific mapping, the research evaluates the capacity of existing urban ecosystems—such as wetlands, ponds, and vegetation—to act as natural filters and reservoirs for stormwater management. The study provides a roadmap for integrating nature-based solutions into the urban fabric of Cumilla and Sylhet, aiming to mitigate chronic flooding risks, enhance groundwater recharge, and transition toward climate-resilient, sustainable urban planning.
