Study on Climate Change Impact to the People Living in Coastal Areas in the Khulna Division of Bangladesh, funded by Caritas

This study explores the impact of climate change on populations in the Southwestern coastal areas of Bangladesh, particularly in Khulna and Satkhira districts, and the relationship between climatic vulnerability and migration or displacement. The specific objectives are to identify the factors influencing migration and relocation in vulnerable regions, assess access to essential services and livelihood opportunities for climate migrants and displaced individuals, examine existing policies, and propose new strategies for creating smart, sustainable, and inclusive communities that can support migrants and displaced populations. The study aims to contribute to the development of effective policies and initiatives to enhance resilience and support the well-being of those affected by climate-induced migration and displacement. It utilizes a convergent parallel mixed methods design, combining quantitative data on multi-hazard exposure and vulnerability analysis with qualitative data from household questionnaire surveys, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews. In order to comprehend the effects of climate change and their influences on migration in the place of origin as well as how migrated people adapt to urban lives, especially impacts on migrated people’s livelihoods and living conditions, it also takes into account household questionnaire surveys in both the place of origin and the place of destination.
