S. M. Hayat Mahmud is a distinguished legal academic currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Law Discipline at Khulna University, Bangladesh. With a teaching career spanning over nine years, he has developed a reputation for academic excellence and a deep commitment to legal education.
Mr. Mahmud earned both his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. Hon’s) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Rajshahi, providing him with a rigorous foundation in Bangladeshi and international jurisprudence. He began his professional journey in 2015 at North Western University before joining the faculty at Khulna University in 2018.
As a researcher, he has contributed significantly to contemporary legal discourse. His published work covers diverse and critical themes, including minimum wage legislation, crimes against human health in the medical sector, and the legal framework of natural resources in the high seas. His scholarly articles have appeared in respected platforms such as the Indian Journal of Law and Legal Research and the Nazrul University Law Review.
In the classroom, Mr. Mahmud specializes in Criminology, Muslim Family Law, Labor Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). His approach to teaching is further bolstered by specialized training in pedagogy and assessment from the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).

S. M. Hayat Mahmud has a distinguished academic record centered on legal studies. He earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in 2013 from the University of Rajshahi. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) [LL.B. (Hons.)] from the same university completed in 2012.

To complement his formal degrees, Mr. Mahmud has undertaken professional development at Khulna University’s Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). His training includes specialized modules in Pedagogy, Assessment, and the National Integrity Strategy (NIS), ensuring his teaching methods align with modern academic standards

Hayat Mahmud academic career is defined by over a decade of dedicated service in legal education. He began his professional teaching journey at North Western University, where he served as a Lecturer in the Law Department from January 2015 to February 2018. During these three years, he established a strong foundation in instructional delivery and departmental contributions, eventually transitioning into a Senior Lecturer role before moving to the public university sector.

In January 2018, he joined the Law Discipline at Khulna University as a Lecturer. Following two years of significant academic contribution, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor in May 2020. He has remained in this role to the present day, playing a vital part in the discipline’s growth through his specialized teaching in Criminology and Family Law, his ongoing research projects, and his mentorship of law students.
