Exploring the Factors Influencing Academic Failure among Undergraduate Students: A Study on Khulna University Students

Purpose: The research focuses on finding the factors behind academic failure in Khulna

University, and proposes a set of solutions for enhancing students’ achievements and well-

being, as well as university practices.

Findings: Key findings demonstrate that academic failure is caused by personal factors such

as depression, anxiety and financial stress; institutional factors such as an unengaging

curriculum, punitive retake policy, and lack of academic counselling; and social factors such

as family and peer pressure. These challenges should be addressed by providing better

mental health support, creating financial aid programs, bringing reforms to the curriculum,

and implementing mentorship initiatives as some of the recommendations.
