Tales of the Sundarbans: The Devastating Effects of Dacoity on Local Communities, Ecosystems, and Strategies for Prevention

This study examines the socio-economic and environmental impacts of dacoity (armed piracy) in the Sundarbans, focusing on its consequences for local livelihoods, community safety, and ecological sustainability. Using a qualitative research approach, the research explores lived experiences of affected communities and analyzes how criminal activities disrupt resource access, conservation efforts, and social stability. The study also proposes context-sensitive prevention strategies, offering insights for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and conservation organizations working toward safer and more sustainable management of the Sundarbans.
