Widowed by the Wild: Gendered Vulnerability and Pathways to Resilience among Tiger Widows in the Sundarbans of Bangladesh

This thesis explores the lived experiences of tiger widows in the Sundarbans, Bangladesh, who have lost their spouses to human–tiger conflicts. Using a qualitative, phenomenological approach, the study examines the multidimensional vulnerabilities environmental, economic, social, and psychological faced by these women and the coping strategies they adopt to rebuild their lives. It highlights the roles of community networks, NGOs, and informal support systems in fostering resilience, providing insights for gender-sensitive policy and sustainable development interventions in vulnerable coastal regions.
