Life After Shutdown: An Exploration of Skill Misalignment and Gendered Livelihood Challenges Among Laid-Off Jute Mill

This thesis explores the socio-economic and gendered impacts of jute mill closures in Bangladesh, focusing on how displaced workers navigate skill misalignment and livelihood challenges. Through qualitative research with affected men and women, the study examines the intersection of industrial decline, workforce adaptability, and gendered labor dynamics, highlighting the barriers and coping strategies that shape post-shutdown livelihoods. The findings provide insights for policy interventions aimed at supporting equitable skill development and sustainable employment opportunities for displaced industrial workers.
