click hereGROWTH PERFORMANCE OF Azolla IN DIFFERENT NUTRIENT MEDIA
Two similar experiments (1st experiment
from March
to May and 2nd experiment from October to December, 2019)
were conducted at the green house of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology
Laboratory of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Bangladesh to study
the growth performance of Azolla in
different nutrient media. The experiments were consisted of seven treatments
namely TSP-20g, TSP-30g, TSP-40g, TSP-50g, TSP-20g + 1 Urea Super Granule, 1
Urea Super Granule and control (fresh water) in which 20 L water and 3 kg soil
were added in each treatment. Data were collected in weekly basis (from 1st
to 4th week) for both experiments. In 1st experiment, no
significant variation in Azolla number
was observed at 1st and 2nd week whereas in 2nd
experiment, significant variation was observed in all the weeks. At 4th
week in both experiments, the maximum plant numbers (1629.33
and 1508.67) were observed in TSP-50g
and the minimum plant numbers (145 and 2.8) were recorded in 1 Urea Super Granule. In case of plant
biomass, no significant variation was observed at 1st week in 1st
experiment and in 2nd experiment, significant variation was observed
in all the weeks. At 4th week in both experiments, the maximum plant
biomass (43.62g and 118.5g) was
observed in TSP-50g and the minimum plant biomass (5.51g
and 0.03g) was recorded in 1 Urea
Super Granule. The total nitrogen percentage of plant was maximum
(927.44% and 14.7%) in TSP-50g and the minimum (1.96% and 2.8%) was in 1 Urea Super Granule in both
experiments. Considering above parameters, growth of Azolla was found better when it was grown in media containing
TSP-50g with 20 L water and 3 kg soil.
