Seed borne pathogens of wheat plays vital
role in causing plant diseases and constrain wheat productivity in Bangladesh.
To evaluate the four seed treating chemicals namely Knowin 50 WP, Sunvit 50
WP, Neuben 72 WP and Tilt 250 EC against wheat seed borne fungi in plant
protection laboratory, Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University Khulna,
Bangladesh during January, 2021 to October 2021.The experiment was carried out
to detect the associated seed borne fungi on two wheat seed variety and find
out the efficacy of fungicides to control seed borne fungi of wheat. Wheat seed
samples (Farmer's seed) of two wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) varieties
(BARI Gom-25 and BARI Gom-26) were collected from regional agricultural
research station, Jashore. The experiment conducted in completely randomized
design (CRD) with four replications. Different seed borne fungi were Alternaria
spp., Bipolaris spp., Curvularia spp. and Aspergillus spp.
were identified as associated fungi on these two varieties of seed. The
prevalence of different seed borne fungi was varying independently and
individually in wheat varieties. In case of germination between two wheat
varieties, the highest germination percentage was occurred in BARI Gom 26. All
the tested fungicides increase germination percentage as compared to untreated
seed. Knowin 50 WP showed superior influence on germination of wheat variety
over untreated seed in Blotter method. Among the tested fungicides Tilt 250 EC
showed potential performance in controlling all the associated fungi on wheat
seed.
