Effect of Seed Priming with Saline Water and Foliar-Supplied Silicon in Alleviating Salinity Stress of Wheat

Halo-priming or priming with NaCl of seed before sowing in saline areas is a recent advantage of cropping by making the seed and seedling resilient and hardened against soil salinity (Sghayar et al. 2023). In the current study primed seed of wheat will be sown in the field and the crop will be irrigated by managed canal water and foliar application of Si. It is hypothesized that halo-primed wheat seed sown under zero tillage will perform well under foliar Si supplied condition.

1.       Objective(s) of the proposed project

                                              i.     To investigate the alleviation of salinity by salt priming and silicon foliar spray

ii.     To increase grain yield of direct seeded wheat (zero-tillage) in the field by seed priming with saline solution and spraying of silicon

iii.     To increase the cropping intensity sustainably in this region
