Promoting growth, yield and fruit quality of bell pepper through seaweed extract and silicon induced amelioration of coastal saline soil in Bangladesh

Soil salinity is the major limiting factor for coastal agriculture of Bangladesh in which large area of land remain fallow during particular season. Amelioration of soil salinity is of prime need in coastal area of Bangladesh. Adoption of judicious nutrient management practices might be a prospective avenue that needs to be evaluated for enhancing food production under adverse environmental condition. Hence, a series of pot and field experiment will be conducted to select suitable genotype and application method of seaweed extract with silicon (Si) fertilization. Suitable bell pepper genotype will be identified based on growth, yield and fruit quality under salt stress. The effect of different methods of seaweed extract application will be explored on bell pepper under salt stress. Moreover, the interactive effect of seaweed extract and silicon on growth and yield of bell pepper under salt stress will be assessed to determine growth, yield and tolerance of bell pepper. The proposed technology might be possible to transfer among farmers practice for enhancing cropping intensity and net return per unit in coastal saline land of Bangladesh.
