Rethinking Jashore Shilpakala Academy as a Stage for Cultural Enlightenment

This study explores the redesign of the Jashore Shilpakala Academy to enhance its role in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the region. Jashore, a district with a rich socio-cultural heritage, has seen a decline in cultural activities and public engagement in recent years. The current Shilpakala Academy lacks sufficient public performance space and connectivity to open spaces, limiting its ability to support local cultural expression. By analyzing the traditional performing arts practices, spatial configurations, and the built environment of Jashore, this study aims to propose design strategies that integrate performing arts spaces with public areas. The goal is to revitalize the Academy as a vibrant platform for cultural preservation, fostering greater public participation and ensuring the transmission of Jashore's cultural heritage to future generations.
