Jamming Attacks and It’s Prevention Techniques in Wireless Network

Now a days wireless networks are most widely issue and are undergoing many security threats. Jamming attacks is one of them. It is a subset of denial of service (DoS) attacks in which malicious nodes block legitimate communication by causing international interference in networks although jammer is not a part of the network. Attacks can be implemented by either corrupting the operations of the medium access control (MAC) protocols or transmitting large amount of interfering wireless signal without obeying the MAC protocols. Most jamming detection approaches cannot provide an effective way for differentiating between the various categories of jamming attacks. To enable the network to perform defense strategies more effectively, distinguishing the type of different jamming attacks is necessary. In this work, we present a detailed up-to-date discussion on the jamming attacks recorded in the literature. We also describe various techniques proposed for detecting the presence of jammers. Finally, we conclude by highlighting the potential areas which can be targeted to optimize in minimizing the effects of jamming attack as future directions.
