Modeling the Impacts of Water Waves on Tiger Shrimp : A Case Study from the Southern Coastal Aquaculture Zone of Bangladesh

Coastal shrimp aquaculture is a key contributor to food security and economic growth in Bangladesh. However, it is increasingly challenged by water wave dynamics, salinity intrusion, and the degradation of water quality. This study investigates the biological relationships between wave-driven environmental processes and their effects on tiger shrimp (\textit{Penaeus monodon}) growth in the southern coastal aquaculture zone of Bangladesh. It examines the combined roles of water wave--induced mixing, dissolved oxygen dynamics, nutrient availability, salinity variation, and shrimp biomass development. This study shows that higher aeration rates significantly enhance dissolved oxygen concentration, leading to improved metabolic activity and increased shrimp growth, whereas elevated salinity intrusion and salinity-induced nutrient loss impose physiological stress and reduce productivity. The findings indicate that efficient nutrient retention and controlled salinity conditions are essential for maintaining ecological balance and long-term sustainability, thereby improving the understanding of hydrodynamic--biological interactions and providing practical guidance for sustainable shrimp aquaculture management in coastal Bangladesh.
