‘Society as Reflected in the Works of Bangladeshi Women Printmaker’

Women have made an important contribution in almost every aspect of our society, sharing half of the country's total population. Bangladeshi women are playing a very important role in both home and outside, disparities exist between women and men in every sector, such as education, art, health, employment, personal security, and participation in the political process.

With over 164 million people in Bangladesh, some outstanding artists have emerged and made a footing in the art world of printmaking. Printmaking is a frequently collaborative art. Printmaking in the subcontinent, the first half of the 20th century was dominated by male artists and was considered a field requiring technical mastery, physical strength, endurance, and stamina. The pioneering efforts of eminent contemporary women printmakers challenged the myths surrounding this medium, proving that they possessed all these characteristics and taking the art form to a higher level. My thesis is about women printmakers’ works in Bangladesh, whose works made a reflection on society so sharply. I will try my best to identify the role of women printmakers and their impact on society in Bangladesh. So far, no major research or journal has been published on Bangladeshi women printmakers. By completing this research, I will be able to show a clear reflection of the society with the work of women printmakers in this country. And hope to work extensively with women printmakers later.
