Md. Mahdi-Al-Muhtasim Nibir is an Assistant Professor at Mass Communication and Journalism Discipline, Khulna University, Bangladesh. Before starting his journey as an academic, he served for several national and international media organizations, namely the country’s national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bengali Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and the country's largest English newspaper, The Daily Star. 

Mr. Nibir obtained his graduation (BSS) and post-graduation (MSS) from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka. 

Besides teaching, he does research in different areas, including new media, health communication, media and culture, film studies, and journalism studies.

Md. Mahdi-Al-Muhtasim Nibir attained the GOLD STANDARD of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award on February 19, 2022.
He obtained the Bangladesh Government’s scholarship based on the academic result of his Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS).
He received the "Campus Journalism Awards 2017" from the Manowar Ahmed Memorial Trust Fund for securing the 2nd position for an outstanding report published in The Daily Star.
He received the "Campus Journalism Awards 2017" from the Shaheed Shah Chisty Helalur Rahman Trust Fund for securing the 2nd position for a noteworthy report published in The Daily Star.

Communication for Development (0321 26 MCJ-5201)

The primary objective of this course is to discuss ideas related to communication for development (C4D). It focuses on the tools, skills, and information required for C4D. Rights, participatory research, communication tactics, ICTs for Development, environmental communication, and health communication are additional topics covered. It also touches on C4D theories and applications, planning, monitoring, and evaluation.

Information Gathering and News Writing (MCJ-2103)

The information gathering process is the pre-stage of news writing. This course is designed for developing the ability to identify a compelling story, gather information, organize, write, rewrite, and deliver in the chosen format according to professional standards of traditional print journalism and online journalism. It focuses on methods of report writing and interview techniques and explains the news beats and basic news elements.

Information Gathering and News Writing-Sessional (MCJ-2104)

This course is designed for developing the ability to gather information practically. It focuses on how to organize, write, and rewrite the information in accordance with professional needs.  It also focuses on the application of theoretical knowledge, skills, and techniques needed for developing a story.

World Media System (MCJ-3103)

This course focuses on the comparative study of modern media systems in different countries. Students will gain knowledge about theories and practices of global media systems, international communication, and global journalism.

Mass Media in Bangladesh (MCJ-2203)

This course focuses on the background, obligations, and roles of mass media in Bangladesh. Students will cover media control issues and analyze the relationship between mass media and the government.

Media, Culture and Society (MCJ-3201)

This course is designed to cover the theoretical developments and trends of media that address the connection of media with culture and society, emphasizing the effect of media, the political economy of communication, and cultural studies. The Bangladesh context must be addressed, allowing students to relate theories to local realities.

Development Journalism (MCJ-3205)

The discussion of development journalism concepts is the course's goal. It focuses on the knowledge, skills, and technologies required for development news reporting. It also discusses social factors, rights, development and governance, and environment and development.

Feature Writing (MCJ-4201)

This course is designed as a practical course for writing features, articles, editorials, and opinions for different media. It also discusses the feature types, techniques, word craft, interviews, and ethics.

Diversity in Mass Communication (MCJ-2105)

This course focuses on the application of digital media skills in the communication field; dissemination of ideas on media, society, and the internet; the concept of mobile journalism, cyberspace, and video games; the role of communication media in social protest; and the media storytelling system.  

Theories of Mass Communication (MCJ-3101)

This course is designed to familiarize students with the theories of communication, historical developments of mass communication theories, the effect of communication theories, the usage of theories in media research, and the process of human communication in a behavioral and social context.

Online Journalism: News Portal Development-Sessional (MCJ-4106)

Students will learn about reporting, writing, and producing multimedia journalism for the web in this course. Students will learn about the text, audio, video, and interactive graphics. Additionally, they will learn the fundamentals of the equipment required for practicing multimedia journalism. In order to give them a thorough understanding of web portal design, this course's students will be given an orientation on the creation of a news portal. Additionally, they will be introduced to some software and equipment necessary for multimedia journalism.

Advanced Reporting: Fieldwork (MCJ-5104)

This course provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in advanced level reporting. This sessional course focuses on applying the skills and techniques needed for finding, researching, and developing a story, practicing investigative and interpretative journalism, using the Right to Information Act (RTI), and so on. Students will be able to understand the insight of news development and presentation.

English Writing Skills (0321 26 Eng 1255)

Students can learn the fundamentals of English writing in this course. English grammar, reading and comprehension, and the improvement of speaking and listening abilities will all be covered in class. The formation of words, sentence structure, clauses, and phrases, among other things, will be taught to the students.

The primary focus of this course will be news reporting for print and electronic media. It includes concepts for written and visual news reporting. Students will comprehend how news is produced and presented.

Health communication primarily involves patients and doctors. Students will learn about the field of health in this course. The students will learn about both physical and mental health issues.

Investigative Journalism (MCJ 4103)

Investigative journalism involves gathering information and publishing a story that someone else is attempting to conceal. A journalist works to gather information and report findings in an effort to affect change. Investigative methods will be covered in this course, including gathering information from the public, speaking with sources, using online tools, using ethical standards to ensure objectivity, and fact-checking.

Investigative methods are covered in this course, including how to access public information, interview sources, use online resources, maintain accuracy, and fact-check practically. The primary fieldwork activities will be document collection, interviewing, and the use of investigative tools.
