FACTORS AFFECTING COOKING FUEL PREFERENCES AMONG HOUSEHOLDS OF KHULNA CITY

At present, 2.6 billion people around the world uses traditional way of cooking using biomass fuel not only

harming their health and environment but also affect their access to use clean energy by harming then

economically. Fuelwood, biomass pellets, agro-residues, animal dung, kerosene, charcoal and materials like

these are being used in developing countries excessively, especially in south Asian countries to cause this

alarming situation (Ahmar et al., 2022) .


Factors that influences fuel choice includes fuel accessibility, income constraints are dominating economic

factors in developing countries and burning solid fuel for cooking is one of the main causes of indoor air

pollution causing health risks in household and community(Wu et al., 2017).


Bangladesh is said to be among the 20 countries around the world having deficit in clean cooking energy as it

is said that only 19 out of hundred people can afford clean cooking energy (Aziz et al., 2022)


This research was conducted on Khulna city or KCC area, one of the largest city in Bangladesh, the target

population of this research is the households of KCC ward 05(sub-urban), 09(residential) and 22(industrial).
