Short Bio-data:

Professor Sheikh Julfikar Hossain has been working as a faculty member for more than 25 years in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline at Khulna University, Bangladesh. He graduated from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, in Botany with a specialization in Microbiology. He accomplished post-graduate MS, Ph.D., and two years of post-doctoral studies in Nutraceuticals at Yamaguchi University, Japan. His major research expertise is in the detection and development of food functionality for a healthy life. His research program is based on a multidisciplinary approach including food chemistry, microbiology, bionanotechnology, and metabolic & infectious diseases. In addition, he is also working on salt-tolerant bacteria to promote a healthy coastal environment and industries. His multidisciplinary research program has generated national and international attention. The research of his group has been covered in the media. He also serves on editorial boards for journals in his field. He is a life member of the Bangladesh Botanical Society; Bangladesh Microbiological Society; Bangladesh Society of Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology etc. His current projects, under investigation, are listed below:

i.  Detection and development of health-promoting functionality in potent fruits of Bangladesh;


ii.  Silver nanoparticles biosynthesis and its functionality study;


iii. Bio-molecular characterization and utilization of bacteria in health promotion of domestic animals and crop plants.
