Quantification of Chromium (Cr) in the maternal blood during pregnancy

Heavy metals possess one of the major threats to human health because of their persistent and non-degradable nature. Chromium (Cr) is one of the major toxic heavy metals that cause serious health hazards in adult human, as well as in the developing fetus during pregnancy. The current study aimed to assess the level of chromium in maternal blood during pregnancy. The blood samples of the pregnant respondents were collected from different clinics in Khulna city. The samples were then digested using microwave digestion method to dissolve the Cr content, and then it was atomized by the atomic absorption spectroscopy to detect the amount of Cr.
